Choosing a running coach is a personal decision, and with Bristol Running Coach, you’re not just another client — you’re treated as an individual with unique needs and goals. My coaching philosophy is built around gradual and progressive training, designed to minimize injury, overreaching, and sickness. By gradually increasing intensity and volume, we can ensure you are building strength and endurance without risking burnout or injury.
If you expect instant results without time and effort through gradual progression, then I am not the coach for you. -
My coaching process is designed to be collaborative, flexible, and focused on your individual needs. It begins with you completing an athlete interest form, where you provide important details about your current fitness level, goals, and training history. From there, we’ll have a conversation based on the information you’ve shared, allowing me to understand your unique circumstances and aspirations.
Once we’ve discussed your goals, I’ll plan your development and training tailored to you. This plan is presented to you, and we’ll begin executing it together. Your training plan is provided on Training Peaks every two weeks, allowing us to monitor your progress and make adjustments as needed. This structure also enables us to incorporate deload weeks to prevent overtraining and ensure balanced recovery.
After each workout, you’ll provide feedback on TrainingPeaks, and I will use that information to plan your next two weeks of training, keeping things on track and aligned with your progress. If you ever have any questions or need clarification about your training, you can reach me directly on WhatsApp. With full access to your coach, you’ll always have support whenever you need it.
This process ensures you receive personalized attention and a training plan that evolves as you do, always keeping you moving toward your goals safely and effectively.

My training philosophy is based on providing the every day athlete with elite coaching methods:
Train the individual and not the system
Every single person is unique and will require different stimulus to improve, develop and avoid gaps in your training.
Communication and Support
Training Peaks plans and AI apps cannot gauge your needs correctly because they are not in constant communication with you.
My training offers and encourages communication because this is absolutely necessary for effective coaching in endurance sports.
Gradual and Progressive
There are no training hacks, magic pills or special workouts that will provide a shortcut to your goals. You just need to show up and keep going. The best training is the training that you can keep doing. Consistency, correctly timed and varied stimulus is the only way.
Psychological wellbeing
Stress, anxiety and depression will have a detrimental effect on your adaptation to training stimulus and your ability to recover. You will become more susceptible to illness, injury and overreaching.
Considering this, psychological wellbeing is a huge part of training and I we will do our best to support you and factor this in to your training plan. Unfortunately, we aren’t trained mental health experts, but we are committed to your development, wellbeing and health.
A universal approach
I once had a short conversation with an elderly student on a training course about what kind of endurance training system he follows. He shrugged and laughed off the idea and muttered that he doesn’t. I thought he might just be winging it. Little did I know, he wasn’t a student and had been the head coach at a very successful sports university for a long time.
What he really meant was that he didn’t prescribe to a single training system because eventually you realise that the basic training principles remain the same. They just have to be appropriate, measurable and variable. -
The process begins when you enquire via the contact page. I’ll then reach out to establish what your requirements are, This could involve a form assessment, a long run, intervals, or an easy-paced session
You’ll be asked to complete and sign a PARQ (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) form, which helps me understand your fitness level and health background. This ensures we tailor the coaching to your individual needs from the start and remain compliant with my insurance policy.Once we’ve got that sorted, I’ll contact you directly to arrange a time and place for our session. Depending on your goals and current fitness.
Each session is designed to focus on the specific areas you need to work on — whether that's improving technique, increasing endurance, or targeting speed.

I coach individuals of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds — from amateurs and beginners to competitive athletes. Whether you're male, female, or non-binary, everyone is welcome. The only requirement is that you're coachable. This means being willing to listen, putting in the effort, being open and honest, wanting to improve, and showing up consistently (except on rest days). Most importantly, you should approach training with an open mind and absolutely zero ego.
While I’m here to guide and support you, I also believe in a mutual fit — I choose who I coach, just as you choose who coaches you. Together, we can ensure we’re on the same page and focused on your goals.
My personalised coaching is currently limited to 15 persons only.
I do have a waiting list and I will do my best to point you in the right direction if I can’t help you. -
